I have never been on a guided tour before, but since I was only going to be in mexico for a few days I knew that I wanted to see some ruins and a tour seemed like the most painless way to do this. I LOVE documentaries and history. An old friend of mine has an amazing memory for details and history so when I lived with her we would drink wine and I would ask to tell me historical facts about whatever time period I was in the mood for that night. She would talk for hours and I just ate that up.
This tour was kind of like that. I was totally the dork that kept asking the tour guide more and more questions, his name was Tony. I was shocked to see that Chichén Itzá was a whole city. I guess I didn't know much about the Mayan culture but you always only ever see the image of the big pyramid so that was what I thought it was. In fact it is this entire city that we spent over 3 hours in and only saw 10% of. It was magical to say the least.
